Why consider digital funding at all?
Digital transformation is no longer optional – it’s a necessity. Yet many small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Austria are still lagging behind. The good news? There are public funding programs that can support your investment in digital tools, helping you save thousands of euros.
Austria supports digital innovation in areas such as:

Website
About 48% of SME websites had not been updated in the past 12 months, even though 70% of consumers expect regularly maintained and professional online presences.

CRM & ERP
Across Europe, only 20–35% of SMEs use CRM systems – in Austria, this rate is likely similar. Many small businesses still manage customer data manually via email or spreadsheets.

Process automation
Studies show that manual workflows are among the biggest bottlenecks for Austrian SMEs. Yet only about 30% of processes are automated in smaller firms.

Cloud-based Tools
36% of Austrian companies already use advanced cloud services. Cloud adoption is expected to grow rapidly in the next two years, driven by the need for scalable infrastructure and remote collaboration.
Digital funding refers to financial support provided by public bodies (e.g. the Federal Ministry, aws, WKO, or regional agencies) to encourage the digital transformation of businesses. Most programs are designed for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and self-employed professionals.
While UPALA Solutions is not involved in funding processes, many of our services align with project types that have been supported in past funding rounds:
• Business websites and e-commerce platforms
• Customer portals or digital platforms
• CRM integrations (e.g. HubSpot, Pipedrive)
• Workflow automation (e.g. with tools like Make, Airtable, Zapier)
• Digitisation of internal processes
• User-centric front-end systems (UI/UX focused)
For more information on eligibility, consult the official program websites listed below.
Programs vary widely in scope and amount. Past funding rounds have included:
• Up to 80% for strategic consulting
• Up to 50% for digital implementation projects
• Total funding amounts from 1,000 to over 100,000
Each program defines its own budget limits and funding caps.
Yes. Many programs are designed to be accessible for self-starters, particularly smaller or regional grants. Some programs require external advisors certified by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce or other official bodies.
UPALA Solutions is not certified to provide funding consultation or application services.
Most programs are designed as non-repayable grants. This means, if your application is approved and all requirements are met, the funding does not need to be repaid. Please refer to the respective program’s terms & conditions for details.
Typically, double funding is not allowed. However, combining certain modules (e.g. consulting + implementation) might be permitted within the same framework (e.g. KMU.DIGITAL). Always verify with the program provider.
Estimated timelines:
• Regional programs: 2–6 weeks
• National programs (e.g. aws, FFG): 6–12+ weeks
These are average durations based on publicly available information and are not guaranteed.
Generally no. In most cases, funding is only granted for projects that have not yet started. Any cost incurred before formal approval is usually ineligible.
If you’re planning a digital solution – be it a CRM-integrated platform, an automated booking process, or a modern website – we’re happy to design and implement it with you.
While we do not assist with funding applications, your project may qualify for funding based on program guidelines. Please consult the official agencies to explore this.
